Refugee Novel Study
The Refugee Novel Study is a comprehensive set of standards-aligned instructional materials for teaching Refugee by Alan Gratz. With over 100+ materials, students will deeply engage with the novel and develop their literacy skills. The fiction close reading activities, the literary analysis resources, nonfiction readings, extension activities, vocabulary, assessments, projects, and essays all provide opportunities for your students to practice and apply what will be their growing understanding of the novel. Refugee Literary Analysis Chapter Questions
The Refugee 18 literary analysis assignments (1 for every 3 chapters) provide a framework for students to complete a deep analysis of each chapter grouping in Refugee. The assignments are aligned with the Common Core State Standards. They are designed not only to have students practice literary skills but also to demonstrate their comprehension of the text. It could supply homework, facilitate guided reading groups, or stimulate whole class literacy discussions for each chapter.
Refugee Assessments
The Common Core-aligned assessments will help you measure your students’ comprehension of the text and their ability to apply the literary skills taught throughout a Refugee unit. The materials include 18 reading checks, vocabulary quizzes, 2 final assessments, and essay prompts.
Refugee Nonfiction Readings & Activities
The 18 close reading lessons and 9 extension activities develop students’ critical thinking skills and build their background knowledge about refugees. Using these informational texts and activities, students will learn about the refugee experience, refugee crises around the world, and the United States’ and the world community’s historical response to such situations.
