Vocabulary Graphic Organizers: The organizers offer different format options for students to take notes on the identified words. You can choose the format that works best for your classroom, but each one will see students build their knowledge of the word through rigorous question and application stems.

Vocabulary Words Practice: The first practice activity contains 25 sentences from Chains that use the 25 vocabulary words. Students must fill in the blank with the correct word. The second activity is a fun game students can play individually, in pairs, groups, or as a whole class. Students roll a die and the number rolled pairs with a specific task for students to complete. Students must either define the word, provide synonyms, provide antonyms, draw the meaning, create a sentence, or make a personal connection with the word.

Vocabulary Crossword Puzzles: Two crossword puzzles test students’ knowledge of the vocabulary words. The puzzle prompts include definitions, synonyms, antonyms, or fill-in-the-blank to challenge students to apply their knowledge of definitions in different formats. Both puzzles have students practice all 25 vocabulary words. Puzzle answer keys are provided.

Vocabulary Quizzes and Test: The first vocabulary quiz assesses students’ knowledge on half of the vocabulary words. The second quiz assesses the other half of the words from the novel. Finally, the summative test measures students’ knowledge of all 25 words. All quizzes are matching and fill in the blank. The test is matching, fill in the blank, multiple choice, and students create their own sentences using vocabulary words. Answer keys are provided.

Vocabulary Words Answer Key: The answer key provides the definition, location of the word in Chains, part of speech, synonyms, antonyms, and example sentences for all vocabulary words.
