Below is an outline of the resources included to help teach 60 challenging vocabulary words in Of Mice and Men and build your students’ vocabulary knowledge.

Vocabulary Graphic Organizers: The organizers offer different format options for students to take notes on the identified words. You can choose the format that works best for your classroom, but each one will see students build their knowledge of the word through rigorous question or application stems.

Vocabulary Words Practice: Each chapter comes with two practice activities. The activities focus on the ten words identified for that specific chapter. The first practice activity contains ten sentences from Of Mice and Men that use the vocabulary words. Students must fill in the blank with the correct word. The second activity is a fun game students can play individually, in pairs, groups, or as a whole class. Students roll a die and the number rolled pairs with a specific task for students to complete. Students must either define the word, provide synonyms, provide antonyms, draw the meaning, create a sentence, or make a personal connection with the word.

Vocabulary Crossword Puzzles: The 6 crossword puzzles test students’ knowledge of the vocabulary words for each of the six chapters. The puzzle prompts include definitions, synonyms, antonyms, or fill-in-the-blank to challenge students to apply their knowledge of definitions in different formats. Puzzle answer keys are provided.

Vocabulary Quizzes: The 6 vocabulary quizzes assesses students’ knowledge on each of the ten vocabulary words of each chapter. All quizzes are matching and fill in the blank. The test is matching, fill in the blank, multiple choice, and students create their own sentences using vocabulary words. Answer keys are provided.

Vocabulary Resources Answer Key: The answer key provides the definition, location of the word in Of Mice and Men, part of speech, synonyms, antonyms, and an example sentence for all vocabulary words.
